Resist the Itch!

I’ve always had allergies and ‘tis the season, right?! And I don’t know about anyone else, but the last couple of weeks have been brutal in New England. Fortunately, I received some advice that I never forgot when I was fifteen years old. I was visiting some relatives out in San Diego for a couple weeks and while I was there, my Aunt Jeanne caught me digging at my eyes, as I often did. “You really need to get out of the habit of itching your eyes like that,” she said to me. “I can’t help it!” I replied. “Every time you itch like that, you’re damaging the skin around your eyes. You’ll end up with major wrinkles before you’re 25!” Well, that got my attention. From then on, I do everything I can to resist the urge to itch.
It's not always easy. In fact, I’m quite positive that I was itching my eyes in my sleep the other night. But the skin around our eyes is delicate, much more so than the rest of our face, and can become easily irritated with constant itching abuse. The skin around our eyes also tends to reflect how well we’re caring for ourselves – dark circles from not getting enough sleep or poor nutrition, puffy from too much alcohol the night before, also lack or sleep, red from too much sun, wind or salt water and the list goes on.
Fortunately, there’s a lot of simple things we can do to care for this delicate tissue, aside from getting the perfect amount of sleep, eating like an angel and working with an allergist to help manage allergy symptoms. Try soaking a facecloth in cold water, folding it and draping it across your eyes for a few minutes at a time. This can be very soothing and also help you resist the urge to itch.
Like the rest of your face, ensuring the tissue around your eyes is properly moisturized will also prevent the skin from becoming saggy and wrinkled. Check out our two eye care products, Anytime Eye Treatment and Nourishing Eye Crème. While they certainly can be used separately, they work especially well as a team. Anytime Eye Treatment helps reduce inflammation and puffiness, and also helps to break up dark circles. And as the name says, it can be used anytime – first thing in the morning, throughout the day and/or before bed so it can work overnight. Using Nourishing Eye Crème over Anytime Eye Treatment helps seal in the benefits while also helping to protect the skin around your eyes from the elements of the day. Less is more with this product and it’s lightweight enough to not weigh down the delicate tissue and feel heavy. It also helps plump and smooth the skin, providing it with the moisture it needs.
So start taking care of the skin around your eyes today. A little care definitely goes a long way.

Love these two products...and I also love our Aunt Jeanne...she's always been such a good advice giver!
